Government action to reduce UK carbon footprint
- Carbon footprint labelling on all goods and services and adverts.
- Every decision made by national and local government should take the long term interests of children and climate first, and not be implemented if not in the interest of children or reducing carbon footprint long term.
- A large advertising campaign is needed to encourage us to change our behaviour, similar to the drink-driving campaign.
- On the other hand is important to reduce the intrusion of advertising and social media. We are not going to change our behaviour if we are bombarded by adverts to consume and increase our footprint. Algorithms used by social media need to be addressed and not continually track our behaviour to encourage us to buy more. It is impossible to stick to a healthy diet if chocolates are in the house...we won't reduce consumption if bombarded with adverts.
- smaller parking spaces
- slower smaller cars (tax/ban larger cars)
- Create a cycling network, suitable for a 10y old child to use safely.
- Tax flying more; stop short haul flights. Encourage flying only to see family members.
- Improve education, as this raises afternoon esteem, and makes us better able to deal with behaviour change.
- Improve public transport so particularly in urban areas (with other changes) virtually no journeys are made by private car.
- Home deliveries limited to one a day.
- Combine deliveries (including that of different companies) and public transport outside towns.
- standard size e-bicycle batteries, similar to AA, AAA, torch size batteries
- plant more trees
- better public transport, providing services in areas without, and reducing cancellations is areas with transport
- keep the flood plains
- and so on
- government should use the Marmot strategy to enable better health, taking into account climate impacts
